From time to time you meet folks who are just good, honest, kind people. Al and Ann are such people. My family (two young kids, wife and mother) are all animal lovers, so when we went out to visit their Alpaca farm we were curious about the compassion behind their operation. Not all animal operations are kind-hearted ones and so our antennae were up. Furthermore, we were dropping off our duck at their place because we could no longer care for her. Leaving "Lucky Ducky" behind was rough on the kids so they were on super high-alert to make sure that Lucky's new home would be a loving one (we had told them on the way to the ranch that if it was not a good home, we would not leave Lucky there). After about 90 minutes touring the ranch with Al and Ann we concluded that they are wonderful people who are in this line of work for all the right and good reasons. They spoke emotionally about several of the Alpaca as individuals with stories about their past. With one, how they had shared 24/7 shifts nursing her back to health in their dining room. As a family of animal lovers, we could tell that these folks also cared deeply for their animals and love what they do. We left Lucky with them and as we rode home our five-year old said it best, "This morning was the worst day of my life, but now I know that Lucky will be even happier with them that she was with us." We agree. You cannot fool a five year old when it comes to such things.

So, here is my main point: if you are wondering about the integrity of this Alpaca [and duck] ranch, I can suggest that you need not worry. Al and Ann have created a simple, small, warm-hearted, caring, and attentive operation run by two of the nicest folks you'll ever meet. We hope to see them again for shearing in 2016.

We stayed with Ann and Alan for a week in July, and it was great. We had a good laugh when whilst not working, and got to enjoy the personalities of the alpaca. Their profile states that they are off the grid, and it is! It was the first time for us to be off the grid, and for anyone thinking it will be easy, think again. Ann and Alan work hard to keep off the grid, as well as working day jobs, so prepare for that. We wish them both all the best, and thanks again for a wonderful stay.

We love Ann and Alan so much we ended up staying again with them again, over Christmas for a month, they are now part of our lives and there ranch is awesome. The alpacas have such a personality and I miss the new puppies already. We will not be strangers to the ranch at all. (J&E were returnees from 2011.)

We loved working with Al and Ann. Because it was our first helpx experience, we didn't know what to expect, but Al and Ann made us feel right at home. We stayed for two months and it never felt stale. They were willing to teach us everything they knew (which is quite a bit) and as long as you're willing to learn, you'll have a great time here. The alpacas are adorable and each have their own personalities-a lot of the fun was in getting to know them. Both Ann and Al have great senses of humor and are more than happy to make you feel like part of the family. They are just as interested in making sure you have a great experience as they are in your help at the ranch.
